The role of the Assistant Controller is an integral part of the School’s Business Office, responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for the School’s separately incorporated entities, The Kinkaid Investments Foundation and The Kinkaid School Endowment Fund, which includes approximately 200 individual donor funds. Working closely with the Advancement Office, the Assistant Controller is also responsible for the accurate recording of donations to the School’s annual fund and capital campaigns.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller supports the year-end audit and preparation of the Forms 990 for both the Endowment and Investments Foundation in addition to general ledger analysis, transactions review, journal entries, account reconciliations, and other special reports that may be needed.
The Assistant Controller supervises the office’s administrative assistant, who is responsible for the School’s mail/package coordination and maintaining the office filing system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure accurate and timely recording, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of investment activities for The Kinkaid Endowment Fund and The Kinkaid Investments Foundation
Coordinate the accounting and reconciliation of donations and pledges in collaboration with the Advancement Office
Assist with the year-end audit and preparation of tax returns, including the Form 990s and related audit schedules
Issues endowment donor reports for the Advancement Office
Assist with cash flow management by reconciling bank, cash, and investment accounts
Track restricted gifts and related activities. Ensure accurate and appropriate coding and/or approval of all revenue, expenditure, and journal transactions to their appropriate accounts
Provide support for the CFO and Controller at committee meetings for the Endowment and Investment Foundation and otherwise as needed
Supervise the work of the administrative assistant and mentor and identify any training needs, ensuring the mail room systems and filing meet the department’s needs
Actively stay current on new regulations in GAAP and relevant non-profit accounting issues
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, management, or equivalent is required. CPA certification preferred
A minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit accounting
Ability to create and maintain a warm, supportive environment that serves colleagues, parents, trustees, and students with patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other computerized accounting and business systems (experience with
Blackbaud is a plus)
