Lubbock Christian University seeks a visionary leader who will champion its mission to transform the hearts, minds, and hands of students for lives of service and purpose. Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Financial Officer will lead all financial operations of the institution, including the development of short and long-term financial and operational strategies to meet the challenging trends in higher education. Serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, he or she will assist the President in the active management of the institution and perform specific duties as prescribed by the President or the Board of Trustees. System responsibilities include budgeting, accounting, and reporting for all operations; information technology and the institution’s ERP system; investment of operating and endowment funds; and capital projects and maintenance programs.
Primary Duties include:
Lead day-to-day business operations and evaluate resource allocation alternatives, ensuring the President is appropriately informed on all financial matters.
Provide leadership to the financial and business operations of Lubbock Christian University including forecasting, strategic planning, asset and risk management, maintaining and improving banking and treasury relationships, financial statement preparation, insurance programs, reporting compliance, internal controls and investment management.
Participate in the development of the University’s strategic plans, programs, and initiatives projecting expected outcomes, financially and operationally.
Serve as the primary contact for the Resource and Investment Committee of the Board, ensuring Board authorizations are received as needed. Examples include Annual Budget approvals, Tuition increases, asset sales, and audit results.
Oversees the University’s system of accounts and records on all University transactions and assets, ensuring control systems, planning tools and reporting mechanisms are in place to maintain accurate and healthy financial outcomes.
Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget, financial and cash forecasts.
Furnishes internal and external reports as necessary, but more broadly providing the organization and its management with necessary financial and operating information.
Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the institution and prepares reports that outline the University’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and future operations.
Among the duties of this position are management reporting and policy making as it pertains to Accounting, Student Business Office, ChapStore, Post Office, Payroll and Human Resources, and Risk Management/Real Estate.
In cooperation with Admissions and Financial Aid, maintain standards and procedures governing financial relations with students for the payment of tuition and other charges, including student loans, scholarships, and deferred payments.
Provides technical and analytical guidance in identifying and solving problems.
Prepares regular financial statements for the University and assists in the external audit.
Effectively monitor the performance of external investment managers and provide institutional leadership for growing the University’s investments.
Approval authority for extending an offer of employment, may advise in decisions determining terminations and makes recommendations for promotions, reassignments or pay increases within the area of Financial Affairs.
Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as required.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or Economics. CPA preferred.
Two (2) years recent experience as a Controller or a minimum of five (5) years of experience that is directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities gained through increasingly responsible positions within planning and management of financial operations.

Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, interpersonal skills, and executive presence – with the ability to motivate and inspire outstanding results from staff.
Experience in higher education is a plus or alternative experience in a dynamic industry which required collaborative decision making.
In-depth knowledge of principles and practices related to financial management.
Exceptional aptitude for financial analysis, management, accounting, auditing, analytics.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities to execute multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
Knowledge of Dynamics 365 or other automated accounting system
Ability to get along well with diverse personalities, establishing and maintaining effective working relations with University employees and students.
Ability to exercise tact, establish credibility and be decisive.
Ability to balance business considerations and willingness to uphold recommended procedures in support of the University’s core values and priorities.
Skill in training, assigning and supervising the work of others.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential.
Willingness to travel on behalf of the University.
