The role you’ll contribute:
The Database Coordinator for Surgical Services integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to identify, acquire, preserve, manage, retrieve, aggregate, analyze and transmit data, information and knowledge making it meaningful and useful to clinical practice, administration, education, research, and the expansion of nursing and other clinical knowledge. This includes the evaluation of applications, tools, processes, and structures which assist clinicians with the management of data in taking care of patients or in supporting the clinical practice for Surgical Services. The Database Coordinator works collaboratively with users of clinical information systems from Surgical Services, with various departments in the Information Systems division as necessary, and in problem-solving issues related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. This Database Coordinator also helps coordinate aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of existing or new functionality related to clinical information systems for Surgical Services. This person acts as a liaison between clinicians, IS technicians and analysts, and system vendors to develop and implement information systems that support clinical practice for the Surgical Division.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Assists with charge issues related to supply pick list charges
Reviews all custom programming and enhancement requests that are submitted by the clinical departments of Surgical Services for appropriateness and completeness to determine appropriate action.
Coordinates with the clinical departments and the facility IS staff to assure that a consistent approach is followed throughout the planning and implementation of new equipment and applications for Surgical Services
Collaborates with practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers and vendors to promote the transformation of data into information needed to provide quality patient care for Surgical Services
Coordinates pre and post-implementation evaluation of process, systems and device strategies as well as examine existing processes and develop fresh solutions to improve efficiency for Surgical Services.
Serves as a resource person and role model to aid in the learning process in clinical information systems for Surgical Services
Develops reports within Surgical Services that support process improvement, budgetary tracking, procedural recommendations, and other aspects that assist with the smooth, safe running of the department
Maintains a working knowledge and understanding of surgery scheduling to act as a resource as needed
Participates in planning, design, testing, and implementation of clinical information systems throughout Surgical Services
Participates in meetings and training sessions which are offered by health information systems vendors for clinical equipment and applications as appropriate for Surgical Services
Assist’s with Director with duties such as, but not limited too; Power points, data interpretation, etc.
Assist’s Director with CPA in the daily management of billing and charting reconciliation
Maintain tracking board
Complete and maintain daily, monthly, yearly dashboard stats
Coordinate activation and de-activation of stock numbers
Serves as a resource person in the creation and maintenance of Preference cards
Assists surgical schedulers in the maintenance of the block booking schedule.
Order office supplies for unit
Maintain monthly logs including implants, tissue, procedures, etc.
Update supply descriptions with corporate
Manages and reviews tissue tracking logs utilizing TrackCore software
Maintains wasted implant deficit reports
Monitor and correct anesthesia charge discrepancy audit
Provide invoice coding in PeopleSoft
Daily monitoring of charge viewer with appropriate changes
Assists with charge issues related to supply pick list
Performs OR Chart Documentation Audits
Serves as a resource person for purposes of clinical documentation and charge reconciliation
Reviews pervious days cases for any warnings or errors that prevent the log from auto-posting
Responsible for review of clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness of charges
Coordinates with the nursing staff, materials management, and IT team to resolve documentation issues and supply/implant charges
Responsible to review work queues for account revenue/usage accuracy verification
Responsible for implant charge and completion, including construct implant for spine, total joints, and CRM devices
Works collaboratively with local supply chain to identify supplies and implants not in the system that may be on a “one time use” status
Responsible for review of supply list for used items that translate from the preference card build, comparing to the actual clinical documentation for accuracy by case procedure
Assists with charge reconciliation reports
Other duties as laid out by the Director of Surgical Services
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
Current Texas RN License
3-5 years’ experience with information systems or related role and in an acute care hospital setting.
