Director Internal Audit (Part-Time/Flexible Hours/ Home Based)
We currently have an opportunity for a Director, Internal Audit who can help direct, develop, and administer the company’s internal audit program system and procedures. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
As the Director of Internal Audit, you will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The role requires review of company operations and each financial system and evaluation of their efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with internal corporate policies and procedures and external laws and government regulations. This is a home office position with the company’s offices being located in Sugar Land, must be able to come into the office for meetings as needed.
As an integral member of the SouthWest Water team, the candidate will be responsible for:
Review of the business, minimum of once annually, to identify changes to the company structure, risk profile and business processes, assess the audit program and update, as needed;
Development of a comprehensive flexible annual audit plan to evaluate and provide reasonable assurance that risk management, control, and governance systems are functioning as intended to enable the company’s objectives and goals to be achieved; and, obtain Board of Director approval of the annual audit plan;
Preparation of audit reports to communicate internal audit results and recommendations for improvement to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and Management responsible for implementing corrective action; obtain written Management responses as to corrective action planned or taken within a specified time from the issuance of the audit reports; and, evaluate and monitor the disposition of the proposed actions and the expected effectiveness;
Maintenance of a database of audit exceptions, Management follow up responses and the status of audit findings
Evaluation of information security and associated risk exposures;
Evaluation of the regulatory compliance program with consultation from Legal Counsel;
Evaluation of the company’s readiness in case of business interruption;
Providing advice in the planning, development, implementation, and modification of major computer based and manual systems;
Performing consulting projects as agreed with management, report findings and recommended actions;
Maintaining open communication with Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors;
Assisting General Counsel in the investigation of significant suspected fraudulent activities within the organization and notify Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of the results;
Coordinating with external auditors, as appropriate, for the purpose of providing optimal audit coverage to the organization at a reasonable overall cost;
Keeping the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors informed of emerging trends and successful practices in Internal Audit;
Review of the Internal Audit charter annually with Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
General: The ideal candidate must have deep knowledge of audit principles, sound professional judgment, be highly adaptable and have exceptional team building skills. A high-level of attention to detail is a must. Ability to work independently.
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university), preferably in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s preferred; CPA preferred.
Experience: Ten (10) or more years of experience in internal audit and/or accounting.
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of ERP system, SAP, preferred, strong Excel skills
